Purpose of the Role
The Mahi Whakaara-BCATS Programme - Pou Awhina Role plays a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of kaupapa Māori Mahi Whakaara Youth Programme - Pou Awhina Roles that inspire, empower, and develop rangatahi. This role combines cultural guidance, mentorship, and practical support to ensure the programmes are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with tikanga Māori values.
The Pou Āwhina will work closely with programme staff, rangatahi, whānau, government, youth and community stakeholders to create a positive, culturally safe, and supportive environment that nurtures growth and belonging.
Qualifications and Experience
• Essential:
o Strong understanding and practice of tikanga Māori, te reo Māori, and mātauranga Māori.
o Experience working with rangatahi in community, education, or youth development settings.
o Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
• Desirable:
o Knowledge of youth development principles, including Te Whare Tapa Whā and other Māori frameworks.
o Previous experience in programme facilitation or mentoring roles.
